Starting from scratch

The starter path: buy a ready-made Home Assistant device, plug it in, and put Franzl on top. Fully guided, no prior experience needed.

The four steps

  1. Check the requirements: what you need, what's optional. 2-minute read.
  2. Install Franzl Gateway: get Franzl Gateway onto your Home Assistant.
  3. Connect the app: open the app — it finds your gateway on your home network by itself and picks up the code. Your devices are then discovered automatically.
  4. Fine-tune your devices: most devices work right away; some need one extra step (e.g. "enable Modbus"). The exact details, model by model, are in the device database.

Good to know: Franzl runs on top of Home Assistant, and that's by design (an open ecosystem, thousands of integrations, your data stays with you). It's no obstacle on the starter path: you plug the device in once, and after that you never have to look at it again.
